After I put airdump-ng -c 2 -- bssid xxxxxxxxx -w/root/desktop wlan0Mon

I get the error fopen failed: no such file or directory
Could not create /root/desktop/ -01.csv

1. are you root? Do you have the permission to write in /root directory?
2. If you have a / at the end, the directory might not exist.

Yea I'm root and when u put it in get that error but when I replace it as data and not /root/desktop I get what I need but when I try to do the handshake I I don't get it wonder what I'm doing wrong

Just got into kali and pen testing...
I have a mac (osx sierra, 10.12.1) and have a virtual machine running kali. Could someone recommend some wifi adapters to use that will be compatible with most software?

The -c 2 in your command line is the issue.
