ath9k driver question & hardware support

I'm new to aircrack.
My laptop's wifi nic uses the mac80211 stack.The driver used is ath9k.
The problem that i face is that mon0 interface's channel is recognised as -1.
I'm using kali linux(latest version).Do i have to patc...
