No. Just create a script to:
1. Start airodump-ng in the background
2. Sleep 20 seconds
3. Find the PID and kill it (or just use killall)

yes I tried it both ways, leaving them all running and also killing them. sometimes the dhclient's PIDs vary and sometimes there is only one but it doesn't make a difference for the result (no clients showing up at my AP).

Maybe they're all 802.11n and since that card is 802.11g, it won't be able to see any 802.11n packets.

How did you determine that it is 802.11g only? Couldn't find proper information about this myself. If that is the case there is a good chance, this might be the reason for no clients showing up..
